THE SUTERA DOG WASTE CONTAINER AFTER JUST ONE YEAR OF USE

6050 KG or 13,338 LBS OF DOG WASTE HAS BEEN DIVERTED FROM LANDFILL

BY USING THE SUTERA CONTAINER IN JUST 3 WATERLOO PARKS

Bechtel Dog Park

Lakeshore Optimist Park

Worker back strain has been reduced

  • A city worker is restricted to lifting a maximum of 22.7 KG (or 50lb.)

  • The SUTERA dog waste containment solution eliminated 267 times that a city worker would have had to lift a bag of dog waste over the year.

  • If a small municipality had 50 containers we could save that city worker from lifting bags of dog waste OVER 4400 times.

Carbon Footprint has been reduced

We have extrapolated the weights to show the following results to date for Waterloo.  Based on actual weights of the 3 units in the ground, and the services we have had to date:

  • Number of Homes Powered for a Year: 14.17

  • Tons of CO2 Removed from the Atmosphere: 0.71

  • Number of Acres Fertilized: 0.4

  • Cars off the Road: 0.67

Odours have been reduced

  • At Bechtel Dog Park, pictured above, dog waste was stored for eight
weeks during the hottest time of the year, July and August before it
    was emptied.

  • We allowed the container at St. Moritz to fill for 13 weeks between
    February and May.

  • The fully in-ground precast concrete well was 15°C to 20° cooler inside
    than the ambient temperature outside.

  • There was virtually no odour.

Usage has increased

  • The SUTERA Dog Waste Containers have now been successfully emptied 21 times in all four seasons; summer, fall, Canadian winter, and spring.

  • The amount of waste added each week has increased by 40% since the project began.

  • The average amount of dog waste collected was 2 metric tonnes per container.

There are now over 50 SUTERA DOG WASTE CONTAINERS installed or scheduled to be installed in 12 different communities in Ontario.

Some of these containers have been purchased by individuals and donated to their community.

If each of these 50 containers collects 2 metric tonnes, 100 metric tonnes will have been diverted from landfill.

In the second year together we will have:

REMOVED 11.76 tonnes of CO2  from our atmosphere.

POWERED 235 homes for a year

FERTILIZED 6.67 acres

REDUCED CO2 emissions equivalent to 11.11 cars off the road for a year

ELIMINATED 4410 times that a person did not have to lift a bag of dog waste out of a litter bin
